The Sun Queen Maria Telkes and her houses

“Sunlight will be used as a source of energy sooner or later anyway,” Telkes wrote in a 1951 paper, adding, “Why wait?”

She was a scientist and inventor, who worked with solar energy. One of her commissions in MIT was Dover Sun House, which was heated, of course by the Sun, but the heat was transferred using melting salts.

There is also a beautifully put bio of Maria Telkes:

Maria Telkes also assisted in building Carlisle House in 1980 - a house that was seemingly fully powered by the Sun, both for heating and electricity.
