China plans for 1km² Dyson sphere segment in 2035


Beaming solar energy from space is taken seriously. China / Helsinki collab already built a transmission module prototype for ground testing:

Low orbit 1MW testing is expected in 2030 (phase 2).

Phases 3 and 4, in 2035 and 2050, each demand very challenging increases in energy generation (10 MW and 2 gigawatts) and transmission, orbital assembly capabilities, beam steering accuracy and transmission architecture. (source)

Of course, a lot of hopes is put in upcoming super-heavy multiple use rocket development, where current space race is very visible.
