In science fiction there is a concept of capturing star energy (=solar energy) on scale to provision advanced energy hungry futuristic civilisations.
Interestingly enough, this is a serious concept in astronomy, which was taken into account during their searches for advanced external civilisations.
For me this idea and the imagery it comes with signifies something completely anti-solarpunk: technocratic realisation of ultimate greed. This was beautifully contemplated by Oxana Timofeeva in Solar Politics, putting it between Batailles’ General (solar) economy and fairytales about stealing the Sun.
And I guess I should explain my thinking for putting it under Humanities category. I see Dyson spheres much more relevant in the context of fiction and political imagination than of actual technology.
