On artificial skins

I like to think about architecture as a third skin. A layer of protection, which also gives a face, an appearance. It becomes a tool of communication signalling your traits and vallues. Architecture is media, which almost literally fits McLuhans idea of “extension of man”.

In these regards, both as a shell and as media, architecture does not differ much from other two skins: clothing and vehicles. Both of them intensively take part in solarpunk as a project of imagination, so their design principles are worth watching there.
